A devastating cyclone has hit Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

Almost a month has passed since Cyclone Idai tore through Southern Africa, but the needs of those affected by the disaster continue to grow. At least 959 people have lost their lives, crops and livestock has been destroyed and thousands have lost everything they owned and loved.

UNHCR is already providing emergency shelters and relief items for an initial 35,300 people in dire need, including refugees, people displaced by the disaster and host communities.

We need to provide refugee families with tents, plastic sheeting, sanitation and clean water to prevent the outbreak of disease. Already over 3,577 cases of cholera have been reported.

Without emergency shelter families will be sleeping in the open or in overcrowded buildings. Without clean water and sanitation deadly water-borne diseases like cholera can spread. Please donate today to help families who have been through so much.

Our teams are working with the local community to prioritise the following:

  • Relocating families to higher ground.
  • Deploying 300 emergency tents for families who have lost their homes.
  • Distributing 12,000 square metres of plastic tarpaulin to help repair damaged shelters, communal kitchens and latrines.
  • Delivering water tanks and water purification tablets to provide clean water and prevent the spread of disease.
  • Vaccinating refugees to prevent the spread of cholera.
Please donate to help families in urgent need of assistance
